Transmission Modes

Data transmission mode refers to the method by which data is transmitted between devices. There are several different modes of data transmission, including:

(i) Simplex: 

Data is transmitted in one direction only. An example of this is a radio broadcast.

An example of simplex data transmission would be a one-way radio broadcast, where a radio station sends a signal out to listeners but does not receive any input from them.

(ii) Half-duplex: 

Data can be transmitted in both directions, but not simultaneously. An example of this is a CB radio.

(iv) Multiplexing:

 An example of multiplexing would be cable television, where many channels of video and audio are transmitted over a single cable to a subscriber's home.

In addition to these modes, there are also various protocols that are used to control and optimize the data transmission, such as TCP/IP, ATM, HDLC, SONET, and Fibre Channel.

It's also important to note that data transmission can be further classified as either Synchronous or Asynchronous. In Synchronous mode, data is transmitted in fixed-size blocks, at a steady and predictable rate. In Asynchronous mode, data is transmitted without the use of an external clock reference and without a steady rate.

An example of synchronous data transmission would be streaming video, where data is transmitted in fixed-size blocks with a steady and predictable rate.

Asynchronous: 

An example of asynchronous data transmission would be emailed, where data is transmitted without the use of an external clock reference, and without a steady rate.
